Austin, this isn’t really goodbye, it’s more of a see you later, my old friend. I’ll be back. Sure, I don’t know when, or how, but those things are inconsequential. We’ll figure out the details at a later date.
For now, I’ll be hitting the pavement, spinning my wheels, and steering the RV westward…or should I say zigzagging toward the West Coast. All points in between are acceptable stopping points because, what’s stopping me from stopping anywhere I’d like to stop? Unstoppable madness, if you ask me.
Great big thanks to all my friends in Austin. What a goodbye party at the Whip In! Most of it is a bit of a blur. People just kept buying me pints of beers, and it’s really difficult for me to say no to a pint of beer, whatever the beer might be, whomever might be buying me said pint of beer…so there were times on Tuesday evening where I had as many as three pints of beer in front of me…like I said, they kept appearing, and I kept trying to empty them…it was like a dream come true: The Endless Fountain of Beer.
There were so many cool beautiful wonderful amazing people. It was like a blur of goodness and happy people all over the place.
I don’t know how many books I sold. I kept signing books, writing sloppy drunk messages of love on each one…several people have already contacted me since Tuesday evening to ask me to decipher my own handwriting. Turns out I actually enjoy signing book! My little books, Good Feeling, seven short stories, and, Beer Songs for the Lonely are now in several more homes. How cool is that?
Great big thank you to the owners and the crew of The Whip In in Austin! You guys are just awesome! Thanks for letting me hang out and be part of your family this last year and half.
And a great big thank you to all the folks who have bought my book, and helped make my goodbye / book-release / fundraiser party an amazing success. You are all amazing. I don’t think I’ll ever be able to pay you back, so what I’ll do instead is write more books. Thank you, thank you, thank you! I love you all!
Before my departure next week, I’ll be spending a few days with my parents in Liberty Hill before taking off, making sure my RV is road ready, and trying to do the million little things I’ve got to do before I leave.
I’ll be reading two more times in Austin. So if you didn’t get a chance to buy my book, or you just need to hear me read one more time, or you’d rather buy my book from me in person rather than getting it online, please come at either or both of these readings.
